DOCUMENTATION

Transparent Information for Project Teams

01

Environmental Product Declarations

Understanding a product’s environmental impact begins with reliable information. Our third-party verified environmental product declarations, or EPDs, report potential environmental impacts based on life cycle assessment, giving project teams documented data to support material selection and specification.

EPDs are available for our CI® and HCI Systems, MFI® System, THERMAZEE®, and PANELRAIL® and REVEALRAIL. Explore our Sustainable Minds Transparency Catalog for the reports, supporting information, and product-specific details.

02

Declare Labels and Red List Free Materials

Material transparency helps project teams understand what goes into the products they specify. Declare labels disclose product ingredients and identify a product’s status against the Living Building Challenge Red List.

Our CI® and HCI Systems, MFI® System, THERMAZEE®, and PANELRAIL® and REVEALRAIL carry Declare labels with a Red List Free designation.

Review the applicable label alongside the product specifications to determine whether a system meets your project’s material requirements.

03

ZAM Coating and Long Term Durability

Durability is an essential part of sustainable design. ZAM® coated steel uses a zinc, aluminum, and magnesium alloy coating to protect against corrosion, including at cut edges. That protection helps extend component service life and reduce maintenance needs.

Our ZAM coated steel components combine this corrosion protection with the strength required for cladding support. Longer-lasting components help reduce the need for replacement and the material use associated with it.

ZAM coated steel is also supported by a Red List Free Declare label.

Learn more about the coating’s performance and technical characteristics from its manufacturer, Wheeling-Nippon Steel.

04

Recycled Content

We use steel sourced in the United States containing a minimum of 34.2% recycled content. Incorporating recycled material reduces the need for virgin raw materials and supports more responsible use of resources.

The recycled content of the steel we use includes:

19.8% pre-consumer recycled content
14.4% post-consumer recycled content

Steel can also be recycled at the end of its service life, helping keep valuable material in use. These recycled-content figures describe our steel and should be considered alongside the documentation for the specific system being specified.

OUR APPROACH

Contributing Our Part to The Future

Climate

Reducing operational carbon by improving building energy efficiency and lowering heating and cooling loads over a building’s life, as well as reducing embodied carbon by using steel with recycled content.

Ecosystem

Utilizing steel with recycled content reduces the need for raw material extraction. Our products also offer a long service life, reducing the need for replacement and minimizing waste generation.

Human

Our products do not emit VOCs and are not made with ingredients or coatings that contain restricted materials (RED List Free). They also support rainscreen wall assemblies that help manage moisture in the building envelope, reducing the risk of mold growth within the wall assembly.

Social

We comply with all US labor laws and workplace safety requirements, support ongoing workforce development and training, and implement a safety committee responsible for identifying and mitigating safety issues and risks within our manufacturing process and across our workforce. We work with our local community through food drives, workforce development in high schools, and 4H project contributions, to name a few.

Circular Economy

Our steel products are coated with highly corrosion-resistant ZAM, significantly extending their service life. At the end of their life, they can be recycled.
