Key Features & Benefits
The Ilse Hoffman House required a highly customized cladding support approach to accommodate complex curved façade conditions, narrow panels and heavy terra cotta. Through extensive coordination with the project team, Knight Wall Systems developed a buildable solution using vertical THERMAZEE® with an added decking substrate, along with a specialized MFI® System bracket layout for the terra cotta joints. Project-specific spacing and phased material deliveries also helped address structural requirements and the logistical constraints of a tight urban jobsite in the Bronx.

Challenges
- The facade design featured immense and numerous curves
- 6” wide face fastened fiber cement panels used at curves
- The large, heavy terracotta tiles would require specialized brackets
- The terracotta included no mid-span connection points
- The worksite, located in the Bronx, had very little space to work within
Solutions
- MFI® System HD brackets were employed to support the weight of the terracotta, as well as project-specific spacing to accommodate the lack of a mid span connection.
- Vertical THERMAZEE® combined with metal roof decking was used at the radius walls, which provided a surface to attach the 6” wide fiber cement panels to.
- Knight Wall Systems coordinated delivery in timed batches to ensure the installers had room for everything
